The Black Warrior River, which runsĀ  north to south through Tuscaloosa County near Brookwood, provides many opportunities for recreation such as picnicking, fishing, boating, swimming or just watching the river flow by. The US Army Corps of Engineers maintains a 200-foot wide, 9-foot deep channel on the Black Warrior River. An Alabama State dock is located in the Tuscaloosa-Northport area of the river. Three locks, Bacon-Oliver, Holt, and Bankhead help control the depth of the river. The area is served by several fishing lakes as well. Federal campgrounds are available for campers and Tannehill Historical State Park is nearby. There is extensive deer and turkey hunting in our area.
